As we think about the passing of one year into another, it at times feels as though we get lost in the daily shuffle, get caught in the grind of life, and can quickly feel so all alone wondering, "Does anybody care?" As I am writing this I am looking at a wonderful book by Max Lucado entitled When God Whispers Your Name and am reminded anew that in God we do have One who knows all about us, One who cares deeply, and One who truly knows us by name. In Isaiah it is written, "Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for a child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on my hand." (Isaiah 49:15-16 NLT)
What an awesome reality for us to claim as we enter into the New Year. New years always bring with them resolutions that are made to help shape our lives for the days that lie before us. God in His Word, in one sense, gives to us His resolution to never forget us as He tells us that He has personally written our names on the palm of His hand. Unlike many of our resolutions that quickly fade away - God's is one that stands forever.
None of us knows what the New Year holds for us but we do know the One who holds us and he is faithful and true. In this New Year - no matter what we face - no matter what we come up against - let us not forget that we are not alone and not forgotten, for look there in God's hand is written your name.
