Missions Team Info
The Etna UMC Missions Committee strives to embody our church’s core purpose of ministry; Reach - Connect - Serve. We believe that God’s desire is for us to witness to the world. Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The Missions Committee spearheads this directive by offering ways for our church body to serve locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. We support numerous Christian missionaries around the world with our finances and prayers. We offer numerous opportunities for people to actively participate in work projects and outreaches in our community and state. Our work teams experience fellowship with each other and those we serve as we strive to develop ongoing relationships and trust. This is how we live out God’s love in our lives.
Water's Edge Ministry
Water's Edge is where we provide a meal and friendship to approximately 75 needy children and adults on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Our next two scheduled dates are July 14 & August 11. If you would like to help prepare the food ahead of time or serve that evening, we would love to have you join us.
We are also looking for an individual to coordinate the Etna UMC volunteers for this ministry. For more details contact the church office.
Storehouse For Jesus
Mike Morrison, Food Pantry Coordinator, for Storehouse for Jesus, said the pantry shelves are bare. It seems every week the need becomes greater and greater. More people are being laid off or let go from their jobs. Please remember that we will continue to support the Storehouse for Jesus Food Pantry on a monthly basis and would like you to bring your donations on the first Sunday of every month. A table is set up outside the Sanctuary for the donated items. The food is collected during the month and picked up after the first of each month.
Box Tops & Campbell's Labels For Education
We will continue to collect Box Tops for Education & Campbell’s Labels for Education for the Etna Elementary School. Please only collect the UPCs (the bar lined area with numbers) on the label. They no longer collect the entire labels. You can pick up a new list on the Missions Team information table located outside the church office.
Good Works Mission Trip
Good Works, Inc is a COMMUNITY OF HOPE for those struggling with poverty in rural Appalachia.
Etna UMC will be taking a work team to Good Works in Athens on Saturday, October 16. We will be leaving early in the morning and returning after supper that same day. Our time at Good Works will include a variety of jobs. Anyone with specific skills, who is interested in going, needs to contact Chuck Downey. Chuck will then contact Good Works and jobs will be lined up to utilize the area of expertise.
